status.

there's not much to complain about these days. the weather is getting nicer, it seems like there's more and more to do, and i'm keeping busy when i'm not working. i hope this isn't too premature to say, but life is pretty good right now.

music production stuff is going great. i'm finding prime samples in my record collection. i promised myself that i wouldn't buy any vinyl until i listen to everything that i have first. then i'll allow myself to go buy another stack. but even for the records that i was planning on finding jack shit on, i'm finding at least a few parts that i can use. i'm dedicating a couple hours or so a night to chopping records. while it can be tedious at times, especially for music that i'm not initially feeling, it's rewarding to a) go through a record and exhaust it for samples, and b) listen to something i normally would think is wack. and while i feel a sense of completion once i go through a record, i may revisit records later on and think of something new to do with them. unlike technology, music is cyclical. oh and the microkorg is a beast and i'm still in the process of taming it, but for performance purposes, i pretty much have it down. oh and i want a clavia nord electro 2. okay that's enough about production.

i just ordered a lenovo ibm thinkpad x60. it's from their ultra slim/ultra light suite of notebooks. and it's fucking sick. originally i was planning on getting a macbook, for no reason other than that it looks cool. but for my intended purposes, i'd get way more out of a pc laptop. all my programs, including music programs, are for the pc. while it technically is possible to have windows on a macbook using bootcamp and/or parallels, in the end i'd still have no reason to ever use mac os x. it logically made more sense to get the thinkpad. it was more expensive than the macbook i was looking at, but i added a lot to the thing and it's gonna blow your shit out of the water. just sayin'.

netflix rules. i wish i would have started sooner. i've seen so many good movies as of the past few weeks. here's what i've seen:
  • city of god
  • hotel rwanda
  • eraserhead
  • the departed
  • babel
  • ichi the killer
  • the motorcycle diaries
and in my possession is amorres perros. gonna watch that this weekend sometime. haven't seen anything new at the theaters in a while but i definitely want to see 300 (or has everyone already seen it??), tmnt, spiderman 3, fantastic 4 2, transformers, and the simpsons movie obv. i kinda wanna see the namesake too. maybe i'll netflix it.

i've been to a few shows recently. this month i've seen clipse, jesu/isis, and i went to the nine inch nails record release party. clipse was a riot cuz i'd never been to a straight up rap show like that before, but it was fun as hell. jesu and isis are simply amazing bands (btw listen to jesu's conqueror. it's been getting lotsa playtime on the ipod). and the new nine inch nails is actually pretty good. a lot of people left the record release party saying "what the fuck was that," but i really enjoyed it. as aldridge put it, it's like a really dark hip hop concept record. i'll prolly buy it when it comes out. coming up is rjd2 on april 20, motherfucking COACHELLA april 27-29. we're leaving the 25th and staying at andy's place in vegas for a night or 2, then after coachella we're going back to vegas so i can put it all on red. "winner is black." "COOL!" then i'm seeing amon tobin on cinco de mayo, and then i'm done with shows for the rest of my life.

next weekend we're going to visit christian in madison during his spring break. it'll be a nice change of scenery. pretty excited for that.

between now and coachella, i'm basically just trying to keep my head on straight at work. i'm doing a somewhat decent job of it.

sooooooooo overall everything's pretty good. hope everyone's enjoying life right now.

how have i never seen this before?

new layout, y'all.

i'll probably keep this one for a while. oh, and i got my microkorg today. i feel like kind of an idiot cuz i can't figure out some things, even tho it was designed to be simple to use. oh well, better read up.
